Watch: Trombone Shorty Destroys “This is a Call” with Foo Fighters

Many don’t normally associate the Foo Fighters with ten-minute jams, but as of late the group seems to be invigorated with their more expansive new album Sonic Highways, which features some of the jammiest work from the band to date. The other night in New Orleans as the band headlined Voodoo Festival, they welcomed out a new friend, Trombone Shorty, for a ripping performance of their first single “This is a Call.” Troy Andrews turned the smooth rocker into a 10-minute horn’d out throwdown and the band seemed to enjoy every second of it.

Dave Grohl introduced Andrews by recounting the first time they met, when the band was in town to record at Preservation Hall. On a whim, the group opened up the doors to the famed studio and played to the people on the streets of New Orleans. Andrews was in the crowd and, with probably very little convincing, hopped up on stage with an old trombone for “This is a Call.”
