Umphrey’s McGee Announce New Album _Similar Skin_

March 18, 2014

Umphrey’s McGee will release their new album Similar Skin on June 10. The band revealed the news today via a new website that lists the album’s title, release date and tracklist.

A couple of interesting notes in the tracklist (below) include “Cut the Cable,” a song that has truly gone through the Umphrey’s McGee process, starting as a vocal “Jimmy Stewart” and eventually morphing into a full-fledged song. Two live staples, “Puppet String” and “Bridgeless” also made the cut, anchoring the back half of the record.

We spoke with keyboardist Joel Cummins about the forthcoming album a couple of months ago on Jam Cruise. As mentioned in that interview, many of the tracks on Similar Skin are songs that Umphrey’s McGee have been playing live over the years, while a few tunes—the title track, “Little Gift,” “Educated Guess” and “Hindsight”—have not yet made it to the stage.

Guitarist Brendan Bayliss also spoke about the new album in a previous issue of Relix, including his excitement for the song “Educated Guess” as well as the band’s recording process when handling older songs.
