The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band: So Delicious!

On So Delicious!, their eighth album, The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band continue to fuse Charley Patton’s Delta blues with a raw rock-and-roll attitude. Frontman Josh Peyton fingerpicks his way through 11 tracks that are sonically and lyrically down-home but accessible to everyone. The chugging opener, “Let’s Jump a Train” and “Raise a Little Hell” are party-ready numbers that show why the band has picked up fans from both the country and punk worlds, while self-revelatory tunes “Scream at the Night” and “Front Porch Trained” pack an equally anthemic punch. Peyton almost gets political on “You’re Not Rich,” a song about choosing relationships over dollars, and the tune transitions nicely to the overriding philosophy on “Music And Friends,” an ode to what he does and what he values.
