Dirigible Utopia serves as a companion piece to co-founding Black Crowes guitarist/songwriter Rich Robinson’s marvelous LP The Ceaseless Sight. This vibe-heavy, four-song EP is rich with pastoral, sophisticated textures and expansive country explorations. Each lovely and eventually complex arrangement begins with fairly straightforward melodic segments before meandering toward expressive, psychedelic mélanges of mostly acoustic sounds (the beautiful “White Sea” is the highlight). The EP is only essential listening for ardent fans of Robinson and the Crowes, but the uninitiated listener will enjoy soaking in this polished mood music. Dirigible Utopia is a highly relistenable and therapeutic mini-set of instrumental roots-rock that further helps Robinson forge his own distinct sonic identity.
