Here Lies Man: You Will Know Nothing

Speaking of rhythmically interlockin’ groove things, Antibalas guitarist Marcos Garcia got the idea for his spin-off group Here Lies Man the day he realized that a certain Fela Kuti guitar riff sounded like a heavy-metal riff played over one of the Afro-Cuban rhythm patterns known as claves. Garcia riffs and churns over a drums-and-congas pulse on You Will Know Nothing, the Los Angeles quartet’s second album. The most interesting tracks, though, may well be “Floating on Water” and “You Ought to Know,” lumbering instrumentals with liquid atmospheres that transcend style and geography.
