Ducktails: Wish Hotel

Matt Mondanile returned to his family home in Ridgewood, N.J., to record this five-song follow-up to early 2013’s The Flower Lane. And while Wish Hotel does find the Real Estate guitarist bringing back some of the phased-out elements of his stonier, spacier early works under the Ducktails name, tracks like “Honey Tiger Eyes” and “Jazz” see him furthering his path down the proper pop thoroughfare—enhancing his Aztec Camera-cum-Sam Prekop-inspired melodic haze at every turn.
