Video Premiere: Reid Genauer & Folks Cover Lenny Kravitz

March 16, 2018

Reid Genauer has enlisted members of his bands Strangefolk and Assembly of Dust as well as numerous other players for a new project he’s dubbed Conspire To Smile. All told 24 musicians appear on the record, which is being supported through a Kickstarter campaign. Genauer explains, “The Conspire to Smile Kickstarter and album is my way of holding a mirror up to myself, my friends, fan base and the jamband scene at large by way of reminding ourselves the power music and the community have in helping us cope during difficult times. It’s the belief that a song is by definition a shared positive sentiment – people listening to the same tune no matter where they are in time and space feel something similar. I’m convicted that we have to face the uncertainty of our times with compassion, community, and possibility vs pessimism. When Dave Diamond, who is producing the record, and I were choosing songs for Conspire to Smile we looked for tunes that had that unifying quality about them. Let Love Rule was an obvious choice. The name says it all. Drop the mic.”

Today we premiere the version of Lenny Kravitz’s “Let Love Rule” which feature Genauer alongside Strangefolk’s Jon Trafton and Erik Glockler as well as AOD’s Jason Crosby and Dave Diamond. The Kickstarter is now underway—click here to contribute.
