Video Premiere: Grateful Shred “I’m A Hog For You Baby”

June 19, 2018

LA’s Grateful Shred will bring their version of the Grateful Dead songbook to seven cities this July, for their first-ever tour of the East Coast. The group features singer/guitarist Austin McCutchen (guitar/vocals), Mapache’s Sam Blasucci and Clay Finch (vocals and guitar respectively), along with bassist Dan Horne (Jonathan Wilson, Circles Around The Sun), along with a rotating cast of drummers and keyboard players.

“It’s more of a ‘take’ on the Dead than a tribute band,” Horne explains. “We end up sounding almost more like the Dead because we approach it in this free-spirited way; in other bands, they’ve got the perfect tones dialed in, they practice the drum parts, they’ve got their ‘Jerry.’ We just play. The tour, which is presented by Relix, will also feature supporting acts Mapache and Howlin Rain.

In anticipation of the upcoming dates, today we share the band’s version of “I’m A Hog For You Baby,” the Jerry Leiber/Mark Stoller tune that was a staple of the Pigpen era of the band. The video was directed by Matthew Siskin and recorded at Pappy & Harriet’s in Pioneertown, CA. Horne reflects, “Anyone who has ever been to the legendary Pappy & Harriet’s knows that you don’t always leave the place in the same state of consciousness that you entered. The video is meant to portray that innervation.”
