November 19, 2016

Sharon Lafaye Jones, singer and bandleader of the Dap-Kings passed away tonight at the age of 60 after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.

According to a report on Jones’ website, she passed away surrounded by her loved ones including her bandmates in the Dap-Kings. The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the following organizations.

Jones was initially diagnosed with bile duct cancer in June 2013, forcing the postponement of the band’s latest record Give the People What They Want. The diagnosis was later changed to pancreatic cancer, for which she underwent surgery. Jones would eventually return to performing and recording, much of which was cataloged in the documentary Miss Sharon Jones! which debuted in 2015.
