Rufus Wainwright will host “Wainwright Libre” in Havana, Cuba on September 21-25 for an immersive event that’ll be highlighted by shows from the musician featuring some of the country’s musical talent. The inaugural event, held at the Melia Miramar Hotel, serves as an unprecedented move in the country’s musical history. 

Wainwright will perform with both a full orchestra as well as Cuban artist Carlos Varela, the subject of HBO Latina’s The Poet of Havana. Varela recently collaborated with Dave Matthews and Jackson Browne, among others. Also on the docket is a workshop on Cuban music from Interactivo’s Robert Carcasses.
