Outkast Reunion “All Systems Go” for Coachella 2014

Seven years ago, Andre 3000 and Big Boi parted ways as Outkast to focus on solo projects. Every year, the rumor mill heated up that a possible reunion was in the works. Now, it appears as if 2014 might finally be the year. Billboard has learned that Coachella is currently in talks to stage an Outkast reunion next year. Along with the Coachella reunion, Outkast would also appear at additional festivals in 2014. Here is an excerpt from the Billboard article:

One source tells Billboard that there have definitely been “some conversations” about Outkast reuniting, while another says it is “all systems go” for Big Boi and Andre 3000 to end their hiatus next year. A rep for Outkast did not comment for this story, while reps for their current label home, Epic, as well as Coachella organizer Goldenvoice, did not respond to request for comment at press time.

Coachella seems to be a breeding ground for reunions, as the Pixies reunited in 2004, Rage Against the Machine made a comeback appearance in 2007 and Pavement played in 2010. Coachella will return to Indio, CA for two weekends once again this year, spanning from April 11-13 and 18-20. Outkast’s last project came in the form of 2006’s Idlewild, which also served as the soundtrack to the film of the same name.

UPDATE: It appears as if Outkast will be reuniting in 2014 to play Coachella as well as several other festivals. Revolt TV broke the story late last night and says the Atlanta duo will play multiple festivals over the summer. No new album plans are in sight, yet. This will be the first time Andre 3000 and Big Boi will share the stage since 2004. Stay tuned for additional information as festival lineup announcement season nears.

Additionally, this Instagram post from longtime Outkast collaborator and Dungen Family member Sleepy Brown all but confirms that Outkast will headline Coachella 2014.

To get you excited for the reunion, here is a track widely regarded as one of the best rap songs ever, “B.O.B.”

Lately, both members have managed to stay relevant, with Andre 3000 portraying Jimi Hendrix in the biopic, All Is By My Side. Big Boi recently released his second solo album, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors.

And for fun, here is Trey Anastasio Band debuting a cover of “Hey Ya!” during their tour in 2011.
