Noel Gallagher Talks TIDAL, Oasis Reunion; Liam Responds

May 6, 2015

In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Noel Gallagher had some harsh words for the artists behind TIDAL as well as musings on U2, Morrissey, marijuana legalization and of course, the Oasis reunion and his brother Liam.

On U2’s proposed elaborate stage setup, which will reportedly have three stages, Gallagher said, “Part of me thinks, ‘Oh, thank God I don’t have to worry about that because I really don’t give a fuck about that side of it.’ Get me up there, plug me in. That’s my shit.” Gallagher did add that since U2 is the biggest band in the world, they have to keep outdoing themselves and that it’s “great for us fans” to see something different every night.

The Oasis axman was also complimentary of Morrissey’s commitment to vegetarianism, saying, “I like people like Morrissey who feel passionate enough to do that, but it’s not something I can be fuckin’ bothered about.”

The topic of marijuana legalization also came up and Gallagher offered a lengthy response. Read it below.

I really think that the legalization of drugs — taking a long-term view of it — over 25 years probably would be a great thing because it would take the romance and the rebel element out of it for kids. But that 25-year [period] would be fuckin’ utter chaos and disaster and scandal after fuckin’ drug-addled scandal. Eventually, it would level out and probably be a good thing. But it only takes one kid to fuckin’ die and it’s just morally out of the window.

When the inevitable topic of TIDAL was brought up, Gallagher sounded off on the artists involved, saying they should be careful that they “don’t look like Jay Z’s minions.” He added, “They were like, ‘We’re going to fuckin’ save the music business.’ You might want to write a decent chorus for a fuckin’ start. Never mind fuckin’ royalties and the ‘power of music.’ Write a tune. Fuckin’ start with that.”

The interview closes with some discussion about Oasis and the possibility of a reunion. Liam Gallagher took to Twitter to share a photo of a pass to a Noel Gallgher’s High Flying Birds Show. “It wasn’t his pass,” Noel corrects. “It was my other brother’s pass. If he’d been a tone of my gigs, you would’ve known about it because he’d have made his way onstage and started acting like a fuckin’ gobshite.”

On the reunion possibilities, Gallagher said brother Liam is being “disingenuous” by getting the fans’ hopes up and that most of the rumors of a “gentlemen’s agreement” between the two comes from Liam’s people. “It’s a ‘source close to him’ and I’ll tell you how close it is: She probably wakes up with him every morning,” Noel said. Liam then took to Twitter to respond to the comments, referencing the controversial UK journalist Katie Hopkins.
