Mike D Introduces the Brooklyn Nets; Nets Lose

Beastie Boys’ Mike D has managed to maintain a relatively low profile in recent days. Last night, however, he quite literally stepped into the spotlight at Barclays Center to introduce the Brooklyn Nets before a pivotal Game 4 against the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. All was well again as Mike D brought out the starting five to “No Sleep Til Brooklyn.”

The Nets would fall, however, thanks to 49 points from four-time MVP and two-time world champion LeBron James. One grueling free throw away from a fifty burger. Brooklyn falls down 3-1 in the series and will face their impending doom on Wednesday in Miami.

The Beastie Boys always maintained a tight connection to New York sports, particularly basketball. MCA was a lifelong Knicks fan (“I got heart like John Starks, hittin’ mad sparks”) and even name-dropped players in his music including Patrick Ewing, Latrell Sprewell (no mention of PJ Carlesimo, though), Anthony Mason and more. The team honored MCA following his passing that night at MSG.
