George Clinton Will Retire from P-Funk in 2019

May 1, 2018

Funk legend George Clinton will permanently step away from Parliament Funkadelic in May 2019.

In an official statement, the godfather of funk explains, “It’s never really been about me. It’s always been about the music and the band.”

Parliament Funkadelic will continue to tour following the 76-year-old’s departure, but in the meantime the singer has a full touring schedule for 2018, and there are plans underway for his final “One Nation Under a Groove” tour, described in a press release as a “once-in-a-lifetime sendoff.”

“This has been coming a long time,” Clinton says of his retirement. “Anyone who has been to the shows over the past couple of years have noticed that I’ve been out front less and less.”
