Bob Weir and Phish, both in town to perform in Nashville this week, collaborated tonight at the Ascend Amphitheater as Phish kicked off their two-night run.

Weir, who hasn’t joined Phish since their Shoreline Amphitheatre run in 2000, emerged during the second set for a take on “Samson and Delilah,” a Phish debut, as well as the band’s own “Twist” followed by Phish’s Big Boat track “Miss You” led by Weir on vocals. Weir then reprised one of the tunes he played with Phish in 2000, as the group launched into “West L.A. Fadeaway,” a song the Vermont quartet has not played since that date (October 6). That jam led into another Phish debut, this time “Playin’ in the Band” which closed the set.

Marking their longest single-show collaboration yet, Weir returned for the encore of “Quinn the Eskimo.”

Weir will play at the famed Ryman Auditorium tomorrow night in support of his latest Blue Mountain
