At Least 50 Dead After Shooting at Las Vegas’ Route 91 Harvest Festival

October 2, 2017

A shooter opened fire at a crowd on the Las Vegas strip last night during the final night of the city’s
Route 91 Harvest Festival, killing at least 50 people and and injuring hundreds of others. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported their investigation of the incident in the early morning hours.

The shots, which reportedly came from the Mandalay Bay hotel across the street, began during a performance from Jason Aldean. As can be seen in the tweeted video below, Aldean continued playing for a few seconds after the gunfire began before hurrying off stage as the crowd realized the situation.

As
The New York Times reports, LVMPD Sheriff Joseph Lombardo told CNN that they believe the shooter killed himself after the incident. The gunman was identified as 46-year-old Stephen Paddock, and authorities are “confident” that they have located Paddock’s reported accomplice, Marilou Danley.
