After welcoming a parade of guests last weekend, The String Cheese Incident once again returned to Rothbury, MI, last night for the second weekend of Electric Forest, where the band played the third of their four scheduled performances at the festival this year, welcoming electronic jam duo Big Gigantic for much of the second set.

Set number one opened up with a cover of the Allman Brothers Band’s classic “Jessica,” invoking the memories of recently passed founding ABB members Gregg Allman and Butch Trucks, and also included a sandwich of the Grateful Dead’s “I Know You Rider” and Bob Marley’s “Stir It Up.”

After returning to the stage for set two, the band took up “Just One Story” before moving in and back out of Talking Heads’ “This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody).” A few songs later, Big Gigantic’s Dominic Lalli and Jeremy Salken came out for several tunes to wrap up the set, including weaving in and out of SCI’s “Jellyfish” and “Bollymunster,” plus Big Gigantic’s “C’mon” and “I’ve Gotta Know” and a cover of the Weather Report’s “Black Market.” The collaborative offering featured some of the same tunes that the band’s played as part of their Big Gigantic Incident shows during SCI’s last New Year’s run in Colorado.
