With Eddie Vedder in the House, the Cubs are Invincible

October 31, 2016

Everything seemed bleak, 108 years was destined to turn into 109 years without a World Series title for the Cubs. And then, in walked their playoff savior to turn it all around.

Last night at Wrigley, the Cubs staved off elimination from the Cleveland Indians with a 3-2 win to force a Game 6 tomorrow night. Cubs reliever Aroldis Chapman turned into the bionic man, notching an eight-out save to close the book on the Indians. The Cubs lost the first two games at Wrigley, the first two World Series games in that particular stadium in 71 years, so it’s at least nice to see their fans be able to celebrate a win before the team jets to Cleveland for what they hope will be two more games.

Chapman’s 102 mph fastball aside, the real hero of the night arrived during the seventh inning stretch, as Eddie Vedder serenaded the faithful, this time from behind home plate and not in center field, with “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” dedicated to Cubs veteran pitcher David Ross. Watch below.
