Whoa.

Phish stepped off stage at Madison Square Garden after a first set that spanned just five songs as the “jam-filled” night delivered with atypical songs turning into massive jam vehicles.

The opening “Sample in a Jar” set the tone for the night, stretching briefly before the centerpiece of the set, “Lawn Boy,” touched the 30-minute mark for the definitive version of the song. The set continued with extended takes on “My Friend, My Friend,” “Stash” and an expansive set-closing “Bathtub Gin.” The performance marks Phish’s first five-song set since August 9, 2004 in Hampton, VA. Word quickly spread of the historic event, with Umphrey’s McGee’s Joel Cummins chiming in on Twitter.
