What is Ryan Adams Doing with Bruce Springsteen’s “Streets of Philadelphia”?

Well, this is an interesting development. After dabbling in Springsteen-influenced sounds on his last couple of records, it looks like Ryan Adams is heading right at The Boss’s catalog at least with a cover of his own “Streets of Philadelphia,” according to a photo posted earlier today.

Adams recently noted Springsteen’s influence on his cover of Taylor Swift’s 1989saying that he originally went in with the idea to record the pop smash record in the vein of Bruce’s Nebraska. As for his own music, Adams compared the sound of his new batch of tunes on Prisoner to that of Darkness on the Edge of Town, adding that he went through most of Springsteen’s catalog along with Bruce Hornsby, AC/DC and more 80s classics.

So what is coming of this remains to be seen, but a “Streets of Philadelphia” cover at the very least should be great.

Adams is also in Europe doing some press for Prisoner, which included a session on BBC Radio 6. Listen to “Do You Still Love Me?” and “To Be Without You” from that session below.
