Well, That “Prince Caspian” Sure Did Get Out of Hand

There was always the sense that Dayton and Pittsburgh, falling between a tour-opening three-night run in Chicago and a historic thirteen nights at Madison Square Garden, would be the forgotten shows of the tour. But if Phish has taught us anything over the years, its to expect the unexpected particularly those shows that may be overlooked by some.

Sure enough, Dayton was treated to a solid performance that included a jam-heavy second set and then last night things really got turned up a notch as Phish peppered in bustouts and major jams for a wonderfully weird night and a great appetizer for the main course arriving tomorrow.

But while much of the focus has been on the “Mr. Completely” bustout in the second set, some of the conversation should be centered around the “Prince Caspian” that closed the first set. While we didn’t quite hit Magnaball level, the song appeared ready to wrap up just as the group made the decision to pull out of the landing and ride the rollercoaster again. The result was a relentless, driving jam that torpedoed clear out of the arena and gave the band immeasurable momentum heading into the second set.
