Weir, Kreutzmann, Hart and Burbridge All Wish John Mayer Well Following Emergency Surgery

December 6, 2017

John Mayer was forced off the road and into the hospital early yesterday morning after undergoing an emergency appendectomy. As a result, Dead & Company’s fall tour is in jeopardy with the guitarist recovering from surgery ahead of a show tomorrow in Florida that has now been postponed.

Following the news of Mayer’s procedure, his Dead & Company bandmates took to social media to send their well wishes to the guitarist. Mickey Hart’s Instagram post was particularly heartfelt, calling the addition of Mayer into the Grateful Dead universe “a wonderful surprise.” He added, “If you would have told me five years ago that I’d soon be on tour with John Mayer playing the music of the Grateful Dead I would have never believed you.”

“I’ve gotten to know John on and off the stage over these last few years. The music, the camaraderie and the energy John brings to our catalog is pretty special.”
