Watch Umphrey’s McGee Cover George Michael, Steely Dan and Sturgill Simpson on New Year’s

Umphrey’s McGee’s did their thing on New Year’s once again as the band returned to Chicago for three nights to close out 2016, a year that was terrible for everyone but slightly better for the members of Umphrey’s who celebrated a World Series championship from their beloved Cubs.

On New Year’s Eve, the group welcomed out horn section Mad Dog’s Filthy Little Secret and special guest Jeff Coffin (of Dave Matthews Band and Flecktones fame) for a few select covers including an homage to George Michael with “Freedom! ’90” to close out the show as well as a dynamic and funky version of Steely Dan’s “Kid Charlemagne.” The sextet also debuted a cover of Sturgill Simpson’s “Call to Arms,” which was recently released as a pro-shot version.

Watch below.
