One year ago today, the great Sharon Jones 
passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer, and last night on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, her longtime backing band The Dap-Kings honored their late frontwoman with a special performance in celebration of Jones and her final album with the Kings, Soul of a Woman, which was released yesterday. 

After an introduction from Fallon, The Dap-Kings launched into album track “Sail On!,” during which guitarist Binky Griptite addressed the crowd and “introduced” Jones, calling her “the brightest star in the Daptone soul universe.” A vinyl recording of “Searching for a New Day” was then played as images of Jones were projected, before the band took over for the recording and closed out the tribute.
