July 18, 2017

Last night, the collective of Sufjan Stevens, The National’s Bryce Dessner, Nico Muhly and James McAlister stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in support of their recent collaborative effort, Planetarium, delivering an ethereal performance of album track “Mercury.”

Led by Stevens signature crooning falsetto and backed by the rest of the quartet, along with small string and horn sections, the gathered musicians run through the expansive tune, slowly building to the song’s orchestral climax. Watch below.

The group has also shared the lyric video for Planetarium track “Neptune,” which can be viewed below the live performance.
