Ryan Adams surprised at a Newport Folk Festival Aftershow at the Jane Pickens Theater dubbed “Your Song Changed My Life,” hosted by Bob Boilen to benefit the Newport Festivals Foundation.
Adams, appearing with The Infamous Stringdusters and Nicki Bluhm, performed a cover of Dio’s “Holy Diver” after a short discussion with Boilen about how that song changed his life. “It talks about tigers in an abstract way,” Adams jokes. “There’s this weirdly pagan, witchy part of me from growing up in the woods with a bunch of cloaked demons.”
