Ryan Adams closed out his Prisoner 2017 tour with a special nod to Tom Petty at Austin City Limits Festival, where he covered Petty’s “Even the Losers” as his final song. In a statement following Petty’s passing, Adams said that the song held a special meaning to him as a kid. 

“Tom Petty wrote a song called ‘Even the Losers’ that I would sneak into an otherwise-deserted bar after school and listen to the jukebox until I could afford it myself,” Adams told Rolling Stone. “His songs, his guitar playing, his style and him just being Tom Petty were things that inspired me my entire life. This world needed him, and he did not disappoint.”
