Watch: Ryan Adams Destroys Glastonbury with New, Old and an Oasis Cover
Glastonbury has a knack for drawing out inspired performances, with tens of thousands of people on hand at each stage at any given time. This performance by Ryan Adams, however, is on another level. If you’re familiar with Adams’ live performance, you may be a little rattled at the energy he brings–in a good way of course.
From the opening notes of “Gimme Something Good,” Adams and The Shining lay waste to the muddy pits of Glastonbury, offering up blistering takes on some of his best material like “To Be Young (Is to Be Sad, Is to Be High)” (complete with Adam Granduciel-like woo’s), “New York New York,” and others as well as some deeper cuts like the Cardinals’ “Peaceful Valley,” Love is Hell‘s rocker “This House is Not For Sale” and a stirring “Magnolia Mountain” to close out the set.
The encore is perfectly Glastonbury as Adams dipped into his cover repertoire with Oasis’ “Wonderwall.” Obviously, Oasis have a tight connection with Glastonbury as not only have they headlined, but were also partially responsible for one of the greatest moments in the festival’s history, when Jay Z walked on stage to the tune after the Gallagher brothers gave him the opposite of a vote of confidence prior to his headlining slot in 2008.
