Watch Robert Plant Admit to Losing a Karaoke Battle in China in the ‘90s and Perform on _The Late Late Show_

Last night, Robert Plant stopped by The Late Late Show with James Corden for a chat and a live performance of a cut from his most recent album Carry Fire, and the Led Zeppelin legend was on top of his late-night talk show game, sitting down with fellow UK native Corden and sharing a great tale.

Apparently, Plant was doing some karaoke in China in the ’90s—as you do, if you’re Robert Plant—and, as he puts it, “I wanted to sing, and I’d had too much to drink, ” He went through a couple song candidates from ABBA and Aerosmith before landing on an Elvis tune. Strangely enough, some “bloke from Taiwan” also chose Elvis, so, as Corden’s other guest Camila Marrone noted, “Oh, it’s on.”

Unfortunately, the Chinese audience was all for the bloke from Taiwan, so one of the greatest voices in history conceded the battle. “And I was really, really good!” Plant notes humbly, before summing up with a wonderful sentence that is even more wonderful coming from Robert Plant: “In Beijing, 22 years ago, I was beaten by a Taiwanese Elvis impersonator.”

Watch the story below, along with Plant’s performance of “New World” from Carry Fire.
