Metallica will return this Friday with Hardwired….to Self-Destruct but took some time last night on The Tonight Show to reimagine one of rock and roll’s most iconic riffs and songs, “Enter Sandman,” alongside Jimmy Fallon and The Roots.

But this wasn’t a flurry of metal flying at your face, but rather a stripped down rendition using classroom instruments. Armed with toy clarinets, Fisher Price drum sets and melodicas, the kings of metal doom have never looked less intimidating. Fallon and The Roots got in the spirit with their best Metallica tour shirts and the band responded with Tonight Show and The Roots garb.
