Julien Baker returned with her sophomore album Turn Out The Lights this past October, rightfully returning to the upper-echelon of indie darlings with the impressive effort, and last night the singer-songwriter made an at once subtle and powerful statement with her late-night television debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Baker didn’t have anywhere to hide in this one, performing with just an electric guitar, her voice and, of course, one of her emotionally raw compositions. Baker chose the title track from her latest album for the occasion, a cut that starts simple yet elegant and ends in the stratosphere with everyone in tears. Let’s just say it was quite the late-night debut, and one that makes us waiting patiently for the next.
