Watch John Kadlecik Play Jerry Garcia and David Grisman’s _The Pizza Tapes_ Solo

December 20, 2017

This past Saturday, Matt Butler’s Everyone Orchestra brought their revolving-door improvisational super jam to Ardmore Music Hall in Pennsylvania, and the audience was treated to a special opening performance from guitarist John Kadlecik, who delivered solo renditions of tracks from The Pizza Tapes, the collaborative album featuring Jerry Garcia, David Grisman and Tony Rice.

As JamBase notes, the tracks on The Pizza Tapes were recorded during sessions with the three musicians back in 1993, when they got together to collaborate on some of their favorite older tunes, but the compilations wasn’t released until 2000. For his solo set, Kadlecik offered several of the albums cuts, including “Long Black Veil,” Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door,” Miles Davis’ “So What,” “House of the Rising Sun” and “Shady Grove.”

Watch the full set below, minus opening tune “Louis Collins.”
