The focus at this year’s Newport Folk Festival was the 50th anniversary of Bob Dylan plugging in and infamously going electric at the Newport, RI festival. Earlier this month, we showed you Jason Isbell playing the same guitar Dylan used on that fateful night and now, Jim James, Courtney Barnett, Colin Meloy and more have chimed in on the event in a new video. 

“It’s not like he was the first person to ever pick up an electric guitar,” James says. The musicians discuss the ever-evolving sound of rock music, with James now noting that “samplers are more popular than acoustic guitars–that’s folk music now.” Other musicians like Deer Tick’s John McCauley and Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino also add their two cents about the art of plugging in.
