Watch “It’s Ice” Fall Off the Face of the Earth for One of the Best Jams of Phish’s Baker’s Dozen
One of the cooler trends emerging from Phish’s Baker’s Dozen, just three shows in, is the unexpected improv placements. We’ve already seen tunes like “The Moma Dance,” “Breath and Burning” and the below “It’s Ice” all get extended thus far.
“Moma” and “Ice” both have had moments of improvisation before but not nearly as consistently as some of the more popular jam vehicles Phish deploys over the course of a night. It’s even more refreshing that all three of these tunes came in the first set. While the “Moma” was particularly strong, “It’s Ice” took the song to a completely different level, one that left you wondering why it isn’t played like this all the time. It’s easily one of the top-3 highlights of the run so far and one of the most pleasant surprises of modern-era Phish.
