Nine Inch Nails made their long-awaited return to the stage last night after the band announced a surprise show at Radobank Arena in Bakersfield, CA ahead of their weekend slot at FYF Festival in Los Angeles.

The show was worthy of a three-year wait as Trent Reznor and the band, which now includes longtime collaborator Atticus Ross, delivered a mix of old and new including numerous debuts from their two recently released EPs Not the Actual Events and Add Violence, highlighted by the driving, intense “Less Than.”

Reznor also paid tribute to his late friend and collaborator David Bowie, who some could argue helped foster Reznor and NIN during their early days, even teaming up for a tour. Reznor took center stage for an emotional rendition of Bowie’s “I Can’t Give Everything Away” as a fitting homage to the late musician.
