Watch Gov’t Mule and Jackson Browne Cover the Allman Brothers Band’s “Melissa” in Australia

April 11, 2018

Late last month, Gov’t Mule took a trip Down Under for a run of Australia shows including a stop at the annual Byron Bay Bluesfest, and while the band’s two performances at the festival included a number of special guest sit ins, this final one might have been the highlight.

Near the close of their March 30 show in Byron Bay, Warren Haynes and company welcomed up iconic singer-songwriter Jackson Browne and his own band’s keyboardist Jeff Young for a run of the Allman Brothers Band’s “Melissa.” With Browne taking lead vocals and Haynes handling the languid guitar lines, the augmented Mule delivered a moving rendition of one of Gregg Allman’s most beautiful compositions.
