Watch: Foo Fighters Play Off David Letterman in Emotional ‘Late Show’ Finale

If you’re a fan of David Letterman, you already know, but after 33 years the famed late night host said goodbye last night. The show in itself was wonderfully fitting and touching, with a slew of celebrities like Tina Fey, Peyton Manning, Bill Murray, Steve Martin and others turning out to help with the final Top Ten List, among other surprises including President Obama.

Musically, Letterman couldn’t have picked a more fitting send-off, as he enlisted Foo Fighters to provide the final sound to Late Show. The connection runs deep, as the host explained prior to signing off for the final time. “Everlong,” especially, holds a special place in the host’s heart as it’s the same song the band played on his first show back from open heart surgery in 2000.

As the band played the tune, a montage of highlights from Letterman’s television past rolled. Replay the performance below.

And here’s Letterman’s final send-off where he tells the story about his connection with Foo Fighters.
