Watch Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds Free “Dodo” for the First Time in Seven Years

March 9, 2017

When it comes to material from Dave Matthews’ 2003 solo record Some Devil, the album’s lead track, “Dodo,” ranks among its absolute finest. A bread-and-butter type song for Matthews, combining melodic acoustic guitar with a vocal melody that runs hand in hand with his guitar work. One of the smoothest songwriters at his absolute best.

So it’s curious that the tune never made it out of the Dave Matthews & Friends era (only played sparsely at Dave and Tim shows–and none since 2010) while other Some Devil cuts like “So Damn Lucky,” “Gravedigger” and “Stay or Leave” stood the test of time both in the acoustic world as well as the DMB canon.

With DMB set to take 2017 off from the road, fans thought 2016 would be the time to make a push for “Dodo” to come out from hiding after seven years of dormancy. #FreeDodo hashtags littered the streets of Twitter and fans even made t-shirts but nothing came of it, as the song was cruelly teased twice throughout the band’s summer tour.

But to start 2017, Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds descended on Mexico for a three-night destination run and gave the fans who paid a whole lot of money to be there quite the treat, as “Dodo” emerged for its first play since December 11, 2010. That performance is now available on YouTube in multi-cam format. Watch below.
