Watch Dave Matthews, Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin and Steve Earle Cover Tom Petty’s “Refugee”

October 4, 2017

Dave Matthews performed as a part of the Lampedusa tour, which kicked off last night at the Moore Theatre in his current hometown of Seattle. Joining Matthews on the tour is an eclectic group including Steve Earle, Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin, Joan Baez and others, with the performances promoting a collaborative spirit as they played to benefit the Jesuit Refugee Service.

With the show falling just a day after the death of Tom Petty, Matthews, Earle, Harris and Griffin came together for a performance of his own “Refugee.” Earle, Harris and Griffin shared the verses while Matthews was charged with the emotional chorus making for a thoughtful, acoustic rendition of the passionate song.
