Watch Dave Matthews Band Perform at the Olympics, Phish Appear on NBC Broadcast

The Olympics kick off tomorrow, with the opening ceremonies in Rio signaling the start of the games. Let’s set aside the fact that Rio is a complete wasteland that will probably claim the life of an athlete or two over the next month and remember that the Olympics have a decent track record of providing some worthwhile musical moments.

Let’s start in 2002, when then-budding rock act Dave Matthews Band hit the stage in chilly Salt Lake City, UT prior to the Winter Games that year. The band played a bundled-up 75-minute set that hit on many of their classics like “Too Much,” “What Would You Say,” “Ants Marching” and a closing cover of “All Along the Watchtower.” Watch that in full below.

Then there comes NBC’s recent fascination with Phish. Here, they work in “First Tube” set to film of a bobsled flying around the track.

And then there are the multiple instances of “Tweezer Reprise” being used to highlight the achievements of Apolo Anton Ohno and Michael Phelps.
