Watch Dave Chappelle Crash a John Mayer Solo Show to Cover Tom Petty and Nirvana’s “Come As You Are”

by Rob Slater on January 06, 2017

John Mayer played a surprise show earlier this week at the Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles, previewing some new tracks from his forthcoming The Search for Everything as well as old favorites and a couple surprises, one of which included Dave Chappelle jumping on stage for a bit of Tom Petty's "Free Fallin'" and Nirvana's "Come As You Are."

"Dave and I do this in different cities until like five in the morning," Mayer joked as the comedian and him bantered back and forth while Chappelle requested various tunes including the Nirvana cover. This marks the second time in recent months the two have found themselves on the same stage together, as Mayer joined a comedic gathering of Chappelle, Chris Rock and Aziz Ansari at the Comedy Cellar in New York following The Roots Picnic performance.
