Watch Bruce Springsteen Talk ‘Born to Run’ Memoir, His Love for Kendrick and Kanye West, Record-Breaking Shows and More

September 29, 2016

Bruce Springsteen appeared in conversation at the Apple Store in New York City following the release of his latest memoir Born to Run, which traces his beginnings as a young musician in New Jersey to the heights of the music world. While the conversation stuck mostly to his book, which is filled with personal nuggets about his life including his complicated relationship with his father, his battle with depression and dealing with death throughout his life, Springsteen touched on some other topics including what type of music he listens to, the band’s recent marathon shows they’re playing and much more.

“My good friends in U2 are still doing quite well,” Springsteen joked after mentioning Green Day as another band he listens to. “I like Kendrick Lamar a lot, he’s intense. Great rapper. I like Kanye West. I think Kanye West makes great records. Those are just very creative, amazing records,” he added.

The conversation also moved on to Springsteen’s impossibly long shows at MetLife Stadium in New York and Philadelphia, the crowds of which he previously ranked among the best in the world. “We know we’re gonna go three [hours], that’s how it starts,” he said. “And then suddenly, the night organically grows. I feel like we’ve delivered the whole picture to you. We’re coming out there to do something epic. It’s supposed to be long, it should be hard to a certain point. It’s what we want to deliver to the audience.”
