Watch Bob Weir Honor Merle Haggard with “Mama Tried”

November 17, 2016

Shortly after the death of the legendary Merle Haggard, Bob Weir hit the stage at the Americana Music Festival at the famed Ryman Auditorium in Nashville to honor Haggard with a cover of his own “Mama Tried.”

The tune, which has found its way into a number of Weir’s projects including the Dead, RatDog and on his most recent Campfire Tour, stems from Haggard’s 1968 album of the same name. The legendary country singer passed away in April on his 79th birthday, just one of the many devastating musical deaths to occur this year.
