Watch Bob Weir and John Mayer Talk Jerry, Egypt and Perform on ‘Watch What Happens Live’

Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live welcomed John Mayer and Bob Weir last night as the two took a minute before their Citi Field run to tape a conversation with Cohen. While there was a lot of random bullshit from callers like Mayer’s thoughts on being included in Khloe Kardashian’s sex playlist (he seemed honored, if that’s a thing you want to know), the trio did get down to something substantial including Weir praising

Cohen asked Weir flat out if the band would be together if Jerry Garcia were still alive today. “You bet,” Weir snapped back. That question led into a discussion about Garcia’s presence on stage at Dead & Company shows. A touched Mayer said he definitely feels the spirit of the late Dead leader on stage. “I’ll let you all in on a little secret,” Weir said. “Jerry never died. He’s right back up there, about 20 feet back, stage left behind me and I can hear him crackling away at all times. He’s not gone at all. I can feel him.”

Mayer also says his next solo album will probably be out next year (Weir also said he has a solo album due out before that) and Weir also retold the story about the Dead’s visit to Egypt before him and Weir busted out their guitars and went into a rendition of “Friend of the Devil.” Watch all segments below.
