Watch: Bill Kreutzmann Talks Playboy Mansion Visit, Woodstock on ‘Conan’

While the late night world was fixated on David Letterman’s finale last night, Bill Kreutzmann took some time to hang out with Conan to talk about his new book, Deal. It was a lively chat, as you’d expect, as the host is certainly capable of holding his own in a musical discussion. Most notably, the two discussed the origin of the Dead’s name, going from The Warlocks to the Grateful Dead. “Bob and I hated the name,” Kreutzmann said of Grateful Dead. He joked, “How can you be named the Grateful Dead and be successful?”

Another humorous part of the interview came with the story of the band’s appearance on Playboy After Dark as well as their visit to the Playboy Mansion. As Kreutzmann tells it, the coffee pot in the studio was dosed, leading to a particularly wild night at the Mansion. In another segment, he also touched on the band’s Woodstock appearance. Watch both segments below.
