Watch Ben Gibbard Storm Off Stage in South Carolina

Pro-Tip, kids: Don’t throw things on stage. Anything. Ever.

Last night during Death Cab for Cutie’s show in Charleston, SC at the Volvo Car Stadium, an audience member apparently threw something at the frontman during “Soul Meets Body” (according to a Setlist.fm note) forcing Gibbard to do what any smart person would’ve done in that situation–get the entire fuck out of there.

Gibbard swiftly ripped out his in-ear monitors, threw down his guitar and when the rest of the band fell out of the song (drummer Jason McGerr stood to point at someone in the front row) Gibbard put the exclamation point on the situation by slamming his mic stand to the ground and storming off. Death Cab would return for a two-song encore shortly after that but the show was considerably shorter

Watch full video of the walkoff and the proceedings from audience members nearby who captured a couple of people escorted out after Gibbard’s exit. The encore break lasted several minutes while things cleared and the band returned without comment on the incident.
