Watch: Ben Gibbard Enlists Mark Kozelek and Zac Rae for Solo Show

February 24, 2015

Musicians are people too who have to pay their cable bills, clean up after their kids and yes, deal with broken bones sometimes. Last night at the newly renovated Swedish American Music Hall in San Francisco, Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard experienced one of those human moments as the frontman had to perform a solo show with a broken wrist. Instead of canceling the opening night show, Gibbard enlisted his e-mail buddy Mark Kozelek of Sun Kil Moon and current DCFC keyboard player Zac Rae to help him make it through the show.

The result is a completely unique, stripped down set featuring material from Gibbard’s solo career as well as tunes from Death Cab and The Postal Service. Among them, a pair of new tracks from the forthcoming Death Cab record “Black Sun” and the recently released “No Room in Frame” as well as The Postal Service’s “Such Great Heights” with the help of Kozelek. Gibbard also managed to work in well-known tunes like “Teardrop Windows,” “Your Heart is an Empty Room” and “Passenger Seat,” among others in the intimate show.
