Finnish soul artist Tuomo Prattala and singer/songwriter Markus Nordenstreng joined forces as Tumon & Markus and took to the studio in Helsinki, Finland to deliver this cover of the Dead’s “Jack Straw” with the help of Verneri Pohjola.

On the song, Tuomo told Relix, “I think ‘Jack Straw’ is a beautiful example of how you can tell a big story through the tiniest details. You never actually find out too much about the history of the characters but the big dramatic arch is all there in the subtext.”

For his part, Markus said, “Despite coming from fairly different musical backgrounds with Tuomo it was our common love for American bands like Grateful Dead, The Band and Crosby Stills Nash that originally connected us. I fell in love with the Dead after hearing their live album Europe 72 when I was 16 and ‘Jack Straw’ is one of the standout tracks on that record.”

The duo will bring their act to North America this month with upcoming dates in Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York and Chicago along with a slot at the Solid Sound Festival in North Adams, MA.
