Video Premiere: The Skiffle Players “Always”

February 4, 2016

The Skiffle Players are a new project featuring Cass McCombs and Neal Casal on guitar and vocals, bassist Dan Horne (Jonathan Wilson, Circles Around The Sun), drummer  Aaron Sperske (Beachwood Sparks) and Farmer Dave Scher (Beachwood Sparks) on keyboards and lap steel guitar. Their debut album, Skifflin’ is set for release on February 12 (the album is now available for pre-order).  As the group itself explains, “The Skiffle Players genesis is a mutual appreciation of American folk music, traditional songs passed down generation to generation, each time interpreted in its own unique and personal way. The Skiffle Players is also a band, each member equally contributing a vital role. The songs ‘Coo Coo Bird’ and ‘Omie Wise’ have been done by countless musicians but the skifflers adaptations include verses sourced from different places (The last verse of “Coo Coo Bird” is from an ancient druid poem). Peace to the spirits of the musicians who came before us and taught us the secret esoteric ways of skiffle!”

Today we premiere the official video for “Always” from Skifflin’ . Director Shannon Lintner explains, “Shooting the video felt like a lazy day hangout with boys back home. I was inspired by the fact that the albums cover was handmade. Using some simple analogue effects seemed appropriate for the video. I mean there’s no auto tune, no overly digital feel to their music. Just kept it real & kept it simple. I only wanted to compliment the song writing and skills these guys have.”
