Video Premiere: Pimps of Joytime “Mud” (Live Acoustic)

May 5, 2017

Pimps of Joytime will celebrate the release of their new record, Third Wall Chronicles, with two shows in New Orleans this weekend. Tonight, May 5, they’ll be at the House of Blues and then on Saturday, May 6, they’ll appear at The Howlin’ Wolf. The band’s frontman, Brian Jay, has produced records for a variety of NOLA artists over the years, including: Cyril Neville, James Andrews, Bernard “Pretty” Purdie and Corey Henry.

Today we share this video for an acoustic version of their song “Mud” (Ivan Neville joins the band for the version that appears on Third Wall Chronicles). Jay tells Relix, “I first came to New Orleans in the early 90’s and quickly met some of the most talented and gracious musicians that changed my life forever. Cats like: Tuba Fats, Eddie Bo, Snooks Eaglin and Cyril Neville, just total masters of their craft. Now at this point in my life, the sounds and spirit of New Orleans is deeply ingrained in the way I play and feel music. This track ‘Mud’ is just some deep down funk and I am grateful that Ivan Neville blessed the track with his magic. Ivan is such a natural, his feel and tone just help elevate the track to where it needs to exist. Oh, and he is singing his ass off on the choruses!”

Third Wall Chronicles is now available via download/stream and CD/vinyl.
